Cataracts

Cataracts

The term “cataract” means a clouding of the lens, which impairs vision. There are many subtypes: congenital clouding of the lens and clouding of the lens due to underlying systemic disease, as a side effect of some drugs or following injury. The commonest form of lens clouding is age-related cataracts.

It causes blurred (misty) vision, reduced contrast sensitivity, increased glare and double vision, thereby creating problems with reading or driving.

Cataract surgeries are the most common procedures in ophthalmology and are carried out painlessly, usually under local anesthetic (numbing eye drops or injection next to the eye). Most are day clinic / outpatient operations or, if necessary, inpatient (e.g. a one night hospital stay). As our surgery is located directly in the Private Clinic of the Kreuzschwestern Graz, we can provide everything under one roof - from the initial consultation to the preliminary examination, actual operation and finally the postoperative care. This saves you from having to make unnecessary journeys, makes the whole process easier to manage, improves quality and also means a shorter wait for the surgery. In many cases, it makes sense to schedule the operation quickly, in order to protect your eye from additional complications (increased eye pressure, inflammation). As well as this, the increasing visual impairment brings a significant deterioration in quality of life and a greater risk of falls and accidents due to poor vision.

During the preliminary examination for your cataract operation, we will take precise measurements of your eye, draw up a plan for the procedure and clarify and explain the details of the operation to you. In addition to considering the medical aspects, it is particularly important to us to take your specific needs and wishes into account, so that we can be sure of achieving the best possible postoperative outcome. We deliberately avoid giving a detailed description here of the technical procedure in the operating theater (question: “how do you do it?”), but will discuss it with you in person, so that we can answer your specific questions!

In our opinion, it is dangerous to follow a one-size-fits-all approach in medicine. At our practice, you are never just an anonymous number, but you are an individual with your own individual needs and special eyes that deserve special care.

We do not have long waiting lists; we want to give you the best possible surgical treatment quickly and without fuss - If you are able see properly, we are happy!

For patients with private insurance, the insurer will bear the total costs of the surgery. Patients without supplementary insurance will have to pay a deductible for the operation. You will receive a quotation of the costs before the operation. We will be happy to explain the legal situation and reimbursement by health insurers when we carry out the preliminary examination.
